Town Council Elections

Elections to the town council are held on prescribed dates and there are opportunities to elect councillors in the event of casual vacancies.

The first elections to the town council will be held on Thursday 6 May 2021. Councillors will serve a four year term. The next set of elections are due to be held in May 2025, with elections on every fourth year after that.

Standing for election

It's really easy to stand as a candidate at a town council election. You just need to have two people confirm that they'd be willing to vote for you and meet one of the criteria below:

  • Be a registered local government elector in the parish area
  • Your main or only place of work is in the parish area
  • You live in the parish area (or within three miles of it)
  • You, either as owner or tenant, occupy any land or other premises in the parish area

Nomination forms

Nomination forms will be available online once the Notice of Election is published, usually around 25 working days before an election.

You can also view template forms on the Electoral Commission's website.
